... Georgina is the face behind glass bird studio, nature and the environment are the inspiration and glass is the medium...

'I've always been drawn to glass from a young age, there's something so tactile about it's qualities. The relationship with movement and light; mirroring water and the ocean, something I am constantly inspired by. The endless ebbing and flowing of the tide brings new ideas and I often find myself down at my local beach, mesmerised watching the waves.

Georgina started working with glass around 9 years ago, with a previous background in textiles, print and clothing she has constantly been creative and always looked for new ways to express herself. Georgina studied a BA in Architectural Glass at the world renowned Welsh School of Glass in Swansea, once graduated she undertook a work placement scholarship award at Chapel Studio in Watford and Holywell Glass Studio in Wells. This experience gave her the opportunity to work in conservation and restoration of stained glass, ranging from small victorian collections to large medieval cathedral windows.

'Living near the coast I am inspired by its natural forms and environment. I look to the beach for most of my inspiration, translating ideas into print and from print into glass. Painted stained glass, and kilnformed glass is the medium I work in and I am now exploring working with metals such as silver and copper. I think the relationship between glass and metal is an interesting combination and one I will to continue to explore...'

I remember my glass teachers fondly, their passion and enthusiasm for the subject inspired me and gave me the confidence to explore all this fascinating and ancient medium has to offer.
